Last week I flew back to Illinois for Alexandra and Wes' wedding! Having just done their engagement session right after Christmas, I was really excited for their wedding and it certainly did not disappoint. The wedding itself took place at the Metropolis Ballroom in downtown Arlington Heights. The whole staff at the Metropolis did such a fabulous job of making the day run so smoothly. Everything seemed to work itself out perfectly, including the weather. Just a week prior Chicago was hit with one of the biggest snowstorms in recent years, showering the area with almost 2 feet of snow! Thankfully it was just what Alexandra and Wes had been hoping for when they had planned for their winter wedding... snow (and an abundance of it really!)
The day started at Alexandra's mom's house to get ready.
Alexandra's shoes and flowers were so unique and beautiful!
Wes and Alexandra opted for a first look. I absolutely love these intimate moments.
We quickly ran across the street to this wonderful little park for a few photos in the snow ... despite it being about 25 degrees, and there still being about a foot an a half of snow on the ground. You guys rocked it out!
After about 15 minutes of being outside, we ran inside to take a few more photos.
Awesome details at the Metropolis!
Nontraditional was the way to go for these two. Wes met his bride at the beginning of the aisle and they walked down together.
Many people release balloons or throw rice at the bride and groom... Wes and Alexandra opted for paper airplanes being thrown at them as they walked back down the aisle as husband and wife. Such a great touch.
All day Alexandra seemed to have her eyes glued to the window watching the snow fall in the morning. She had hoped it would continue when we took photos outside later, but since it had stopped we didn't get that chance at that point. I did notice right after the ceremony that it had started to snow again so I pulled them outside for a few more shots.
When i had photographed Alexandra and Wes at Christmas, they had mentioned that the only thing they really wanted was photos of them walking home at the end of the night of their wedding, as you could see Wes' apartment from the Metropolis. I loved this idea and it made for some beautiful photos. Wes dragging the "just married cans" was the perfect touch.
I leave you with one of my favorites from the day.
Alexandra and Wes, I hope you had a phenomenal honeymoon in Jamaica! Thanks so much for allowing me to be a part of your day! I had such a great time photographing it for you and I hope when you look at these photos they take you right back to your beautiful wedding! You guys are awesome!
