I was thrilled when Wes and Alexandra contacted me just before I flew home to Chicago two weeks ago for their wedding in February. The year that I move from Illinois to Colorado, was the year that Wes moved to Illinois and started working at the church that I had worked at all throughout high school so we met a few times through mutual friends over the last few years. I am thrilled to get to photograph his marriage to Alexandra in February. Even better we were able to get together and shoot their engagement photos while I was home this last week.
When Wes emailed me and said that he and Alexandra really wanted a farm environment for their engagement session, it had me scratching my head, until I looked outside my parent's kitchen window. My parents have lived in the same house for about the last 18 years. And one of my favorite things about that house is the horse farm we look out onto behind our house. I've never stepped onto that property until this last week, when I decided it would make for the perfect location. Wes and Alexandra braved the bitter Chicago winter to do this shoot, and while I know we were all freezing, they handled it beautifully!
We were able to go into one of the barns to get a few shots too.
I don't add texture to photos all that often, but I love it when it really works for the photo... like it does for this one.
We ended the shoot with a snowball fight... Which is worse? Snow down the back or snow in the face?
The barn had a small family of kittens living inside. Hard to say whether Alexandra and Wes loved the kittens more than then kittens loved them.
This photo is definitely my favorite!
